Cell Phone Reception In South Texas How To Increase Reception

Cell phone coverage in South Texas can be problematic to say the least.

The area known as South Texas reaches roughly from south and west of Houston, South of Austin and East of Del Rio. It is still relatively unpopulated and the distances between towns can be great.

Because of the large distances involved you can understand why cell phone companies do not have towers in all the places that you need them. Basically there are two frequencies used for cell phone towers, 800 and 1900 Megahertz, abbreviated MHZ

AT&T, who uses the old Cingular and Southwestern Bell tower system has a huge advantage in South Texas. For those who will be beating the back roads and small towns you will not have coverage in many areas unless you use AT&T.

Unfortunately Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile use 1900 MHZ in most of South Texas and they do not have enough towers outside of the cities to provide decent coverage area.

In most areas of South Texas an external cell phone antenna will be enough to help you boost your signal enough to make a call, however there are areas where you will need a cell phone booster for even AT&T to work.
