How To Buy A Classic Chevrolet On eBay Safely. Safe Car Buying

At any given time there are dozens of classic Chevy cars for sale on Ebay Motors. Some classic Chevrolet cars are good deals and some are not. Many are just old junkers that have been sitting out under a tree somewhere and the owner has dragged them out, washed them off a little and maybe put new rubber on. Some may have wires eaten up by mice and rats that are also living and eating the upholstery.

One thing to look for in a good Ebay seller is positive feedback. At least 95 or higher, preferably 99 to 100 feedback scores are a good indication of how honest a seller is. Look as well for how many transaction they have.

Clear titles to any classic Chevy car are a must although it is possible to get a bonded title in many states with enough proof, however this can be very difficult especially if your seller does not fully cooperate or does not know the full history of the car.

If you are looking for a true classic Chevrolet car on Ebay then you need to know what the nature of the restoration is, if it was stripped down to the frame and rebuilt with reasonalbe duplicates of original parts, how much of the car is original and how much is Bondo, etc. If you are a true classic lover you might not want a restored 1957 Chevrolet with a Ford engine.

If there are no other bids and the auction is several days old beware.

Communicate with the buyer and communicate often. Request photos of any part of the car that you cannot see in the auction photos. Get a good valuation online using the Blue Book if it goes back that far.

Ask questions about who did the restoration and what their experience is. Are they a mechanic by trade? Is this their first restoration? If so you may want to avoid it.
